Project Description

This small utilitarian structure is situated in the middle of a single family residential neighborhood in Seattle’s Beacon Hill Neighborhood. The team was tasked to make a visually appealing but highly functional and highly secure building to house the infrastructure and odor control equipment for the nearby combined sewer and stormwater project. The building is a simple but elegant modern pavilion form. Cost effective and common construction techniques and materials are employed with an eye for balance and proportion that lifts the building above it’s humble roots without being too overstated for the neighborhood. The architects collaborated closely with landscape architects to soften and knit the project into the existing small urban forest that it sits adjacent to. A whimsical fin element inspired from the flow of water brings joy and color to the facility’s secure perimeter.
